I have qualified for the Boston Marathon! At my age, that means I had to run a marathon in 3:40:59 or faster. Even three years ago, this seemed like an unreachable goal. I figured I'd have to maintain my fitness and qualify in a few decades, or pay quite a bit of money to buy a charity entry.
Everything just went so perfectly on race day. The weather was gorgeous and I'd slept well the night before. I had a feeling it might be my day, and it was!
My next race is on Halloween...should be spooky!

Ooh, congrats!!! I'm embarrassed to report that I had know idea that you had to quality for the Boston marathon, despite having grown up in Massachusetts.
I've thought about taking up running as a hobby. I'm so bad at running when I'm not on a treadmill that forces your legs to move, though. Did you use couch to 5k to begin running?
Congratulations, Mary - and well deserved! We'll be waiting to hear about that race when it happens. How exciting for you!
Thanks, Elizabeth! I didn't use couch to 5K -- I didn't know about it when I started. I was extremely out of shape and just started running a block, then walking a block, etc., then I could run 2 blocks, walk 1 block.
I do have several friends who have done couch to 5K and have raved about it.
Now, I do a bit of treadmill running, but try to get outside as much as possible.
Thanks, Shannon! I'm really excited, though still not sure about doing it in 2010 or 2011. I should still be blogging, though, so by the time I post about it, you may have forgotten that I was going to do it :)
