Backyard wildlife

Tuesday night, as I headed into the kitchen, I noticed a rather large animal through our patio window. I didn't have my glasses on and assumed it was a raccoon. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was a woodchuck! I have never seen one in the wild before, though they surely exist.

This one didn't seem to mind the rabbit in his territory. I'm kind of hoping this becomes a regular occurrence!

Today we watched a small parrot in our yard! Orange/white face, green with a blue feather on lower back behind. Could this possibly be someone's lost pet? Our son did get a snapshot.

It probably was someone's lost pet. If you google "Parrot 911" you can find a site where you can list the sighting of the parrot (and look through the lost ads). If you're able to capture the parrot, you can contact a local parrot rescue or animal control for help in finding his home.

Depending on where you live, he could be a feral parrot, and therefore not someone's pet; however, since you saw only one and not a flock, he was most likely an escapee. Good luck!
