I have said many times how there is a new parrot ban on in our house -- I have to know my limits. I have also said that when we do take new parrots into our home, they will be medium-sized, so that there's not as much danger of someone removing a beak/toe/etc.
I was up at the rescue where I volunteer today, and there is a little budgie testing that resolve. I call him Brian. He is 10 years old and has a pretty large tumor, so he's looking for a hospice home.He was not let out of his ridiculously small, round cage (round cages are horrible for parrots!) for his entire life, yet he is relatively tame (he doesn't step up, but doesn't bite and will stay on my finger.) He also is quite the talker including the phrase "Get me beer!" As Thomas is a homebrewer, this budgie will be very hard to resist.
He spent much of the afternoon in my pocket. Here is his tail sticking out:
He just needs a place to live out his remaining months. I am torn. I know we shouldn't adopt him, but I really miss having a budgie around and he is perfect. Temptation!!!

Remember , you would not be adopting , you would only be giving him a place to rest his last days . If my lovebird Icarus needed a place to rest his last days I cannot think of a better place for him to rest . If you do I will spring for the Harrisons Superfine
What better place to live out his remaining days than in the love and comfort of your welcoming home, heart and arms (pockets too!) I say go for it.
I say go for it. The little guy could use a loving family for his last stretch before he reaches the rainbow bridge, and I think y'all would be perfect for him :).
Do it do it!! He needs your love!!!
I can't believe you're even slowing down to think about it. Bring that baby home with you!
Yeah, I'd cave too.
Have you got him home yet?
Oh, you guys. I was hoping for some voices of reason -- "you have too many parrots already! you need to stay with medium-sized birds!" You were supposed to talk sense into me!
It's looking like he'll come home later this week. I got stuck at work longer than anticipated today.
Everybody
HIP HIP HOORAY
I will send you the Harrisons Superfine like I said.
D.Richard,
That's a really nice thought. I promise he'll get good care here -- you don't need to send him gifts :) If you really want to do something, you can take the money you would have spent and donate it to a local rescue. They can use it more than me. Thanks for being so thoughtful!
I'm off to pick him up now -- I'll maybe update later tonight; tomorrow for sure!
