He speaks!

Saturday morning, Thomas was out running and I was upstairs doing yoga. The parrots were all in their cages.

Suddenly, I hear what sounds to me like an intruder speaking downstairs. After a brief scare, I realize it's Steve, chattering away!

I couldn't understand the vast majority of what he said (I was on a different level of the house, plus I had fans going, and I was doing yoga), though towards the end I heard (and understood): "I'll be back!" in a singsong voice, and "Come over here!"

I was going to lurk at the top of the stairs to hear more of his speaking after yoga, but at that moment Thomas returned from his run, so Steve stopped talking.

I am so excited about this, for two reasons:

1. The fact that he is talking, after not doing so for around 2 years, is a good sign. He's feeling more comfortable and maybe even happy?

2. It is easier to find a home for a grey that talks than one that doesn't, which should increase the number of potential homes for him, once he's ready to be adopted.

Around us, he's still just making noises and whistling, but compared to the silence of his first few weeks, that's also good. It's so fun watching him come out of his shell!
